Description Are you a dedicated news and copy editor looking for a long-term position in the Canadian news industry? Look no further! Squall Inc. (Squall.com) publishes online business to business news for Canadian industry professionals. Its flagship publications are the Real Estate News Exchange (RENX.ca), Sustainable Biz Canada (SustainableBiz.ca) and RENXHomes (RENXHomes.ca). We are expecting to open additional news services over the next 18 months. Squall is looking for an experienced, newsletter and content editor to join its editorial team. It is a remote work position, business days, with fixed (75%) and flexible hours, available for a qualified individual located in the GTA or Montreal, Canada. What is a newsletter editor at Squall? A newsletter editor at Squall starts their day early researching the newswires and mainstream media for industry news. At the daily newsroom meeting the editor reports on their findings, participates in assignment decisions and discussions about the issues of the day. With the morning meeting over, they curate the days content for inclusion in a Squall newsletter, meet with the publications team for a final content review. Applying their exceptional copy editing skills the newsletter editor assists throughout the day with Squall articles for publication. Throughout the day the research and curation process continues, with a focus on sourcing breaking news stories for referral to the editorial team. Research includes frequent visits to social media sites such as LInkedIn, Reddit, Twitter and Facebook to source new story ideas and content. Tracking of public company reports, and an understanding of their content is an is an integral part the newsletter editors day. Before signing off the news editor completes a final newswire check and files their EOD report to the team. Next day it starts all over again. You will thrive in this role if You are someone for whom news is integral to your personal and professional interests. You are insatiably curious about news concerning business, business performance, the economy, stock markets and industry executives. You are able to identify and flag potential legal issues in online content and Squall news. You are most comfortable and engaged with a high pressure, predictable daily routine a daily refresh and repeat work schedule. You have exemplary time management skills that facilitate you completing editing tasks according to company deadlines. You know how to support an editorial team in producing high quality content, fact-checked, copy edited in Canadian Press style for grammar, sentence structure, spelling and punctuation. You are a team player who requires minimal supervision. You have an established remote work office environment, advanced computer skills with the ability to learn new softwares as required.
