Job Description

Under general supervision, the successful incumbent will be responsible for professional engineering work which involves designing electric transmission and distribution facilities, power production buildings and structures upgrades, new constructions, rehabilitations, repairs, major overhauls and routine maintenance projects. Because the Authority has a responsibility to serve the public 24 hours a day, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as conditions demand and may be called in on short notice during power outages and other emergencies. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Analyzes, troubleshoots and corrects electrical malfunctions. Analyzes operation of protective relays when activated upon a trip-out of generating unit to be able to pinpoint source of problem. Prepares estimates, plans and specifications for minor plant additions and modifications. Designs modifications and additions to existing equipment that require sizing of motors, cables and accompanying instruments and controls. Prepares all special reports on the operation and maintenance of the power generating plant as deemed necessary. Prepares special procedures and supervises the operation of electrical switching orders. Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of mathematics required in complex electrical computations. Knowledge of modern training and safety practices. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety. Ability to prepare drawings and sketches of generating plants and distribution lines. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with constructors, coworkers and all others contacted during the course of work. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field, and one (1) to four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering. #J-18808-Ljbffr
